Golden Butterflies Mentoring Program

Golden Butterflies mentors women before and after release — offering steady, compassionate support from day one.

Why Mentorship Matters

Golden Butterflies was born behind prison walls. It started with a single mentor showing up week after week to sit with women preparing for release; women with no plans, no one waiting, and no reason to believe anything could change.

What we learned is simple: when someone shows up consistently, healing begins.

This program pairs incarcerated women with a dedicated mentor who builds trust before release and continues support afterward. That trusted relationship becomes a lifeline — encouraging women to believe in their own worth, recognize their potential, and move forward with guidance, accountability, and hope.

What Makes Golden Butterflies Different

Gender-Responsive by Design

Doors of Hope Community understands that women experience incarceration and reentry differently — often shaped by trauma, addiction, violence, and family separation. Our program is tailored to those realities.

Consistency is the Key

The same mentor visits weekly — building the trust necessary to address deep emotional wounds and mental health barriers that traditional systems often overlook.

Support That Continues After Release

Mentorship doesn’t stop at the gate. We walk with women through the critical days, weeks, and months post-release — offering practical help, encouragement, and connection to additional services.

A Foundation for the Future

Women mentored through Golden Butterflies often continue on to housing, education, employment — and mentorship of others. It's a ripple effect that begins with relationship.

Beyond Reentry: Building Pathways for Women to Heal, Grow, and Thrive

Through a holistic and gender-responsive approach, Doors of Hope Community recognizes that successful reintegration requires more than a one-size-fits-all model. We are dedicated to addressing the distinct needs and experiences of women, ensuring that our programs promote healing, empowerment, and personal growth.

We believe that supporting women as they transition back into the community necessitates understanding the unique challenges they face—challenges that often include histories of trauma, mental health concerns, substance use disorders, and barriers to stable housing and employment. By fostering a supportive environment and tailoring interventions to the realities of women’s lives, we aim to create pathways to long-term well-being and self-sufficiency.
